Anti authoritarian activist Jaggi Singh Arrested in anti WTO

Approximately 10-15 riot police wearing helmets with face
shields and batons arrested Jaggi Singh today at 9 :10 A.M. on
the corner of St. Catherine and Peel in front of an HMV music
store. Independent media and mainstream media were on hand
to photograph and film the arrest.
The arrest came after a snake march which began at 6 :30
A.M. The march went around the downtown core settling on
the corner of Montangne and Rene Levesque Streets where
riot police were positioned in front of barricades blocking off
the area in front of the Shereton Hotel where the W.T.O.
ministerial is taking place. Riot police charged the crowd
swinging their batons, the march then escaped through a back
alley and continued to make its way around downtown
Montreal.
Property was damaged and windows were smashed at the
GAP, Burger King, an Army recruiting centre, the Bank of
Montreal and a Porsche. The march dispersed from the
downtown core before 9 A.M.
