In turkey a campaign against Coca-Cola festival is being prepared. we like to have some support. the letter of campaign is attached.

Barýþarock (rock with peace)

We all know that Coca Cola is not only a drink trademark. It is a lifestyle. It is a logo of global system.We are the people who have problem with the system. Because we think this system cause poverty, injustice and wars in the world. That Coca Cola is one of the symbol of this system. And Coca Cola is not innocent in any way. We would not forget and not be forgotten that the 8 leader of Colombian Food and Drink Workers Union (SÝNALTRAÝNAL) were killed by paramilitary groups who financed by Coca Cola management.

We the people who listen, like and make Rock, protest the Rock and Roll festival of Coca Cola on 6-7 September at an airport. Because rock and Coca Cola can not come together. We are protesting this "rock concert" of 4 million dolars. Because rock is not for sale. We would not go, listen and play music.

If they have money we have the strength of unity. To prove it with slogan of "the word is not enough" we prepare our counter-festival. We understood that we are not alone when we start to work.

On the list of Coca-Cola festival there are simple minds, pet shop boys, the cardigans, hooverphonic, dreadzone, mercan dede, guano apes, sugababes, echo & the bunnymen, sueda, dead kennedys, dirty vegas and a lot of Turkish musicians.

When we start to work "Barýþarock (rock with peace) counter festival " we did not have much in hand. But in just two-three weeks a lot of groups in Turkey gave support to us. Even some of the groups that would attend the Coca-Cola festival with the pressure of campaign decided to come our festival. Trade union and a lot of civil right organizations support this initiative. Our possibilities are limited. But our aim is not to rival with coca-cola festival. We want to display the crimes of Coca-Cola have been doing in Colombia, Guatemala, Venezuela, Nigeria and other parts in the world. We saw in Turkey that reaction against globalization could easily grow like do in all the world. We like to support and strength this initiative. For this we invite some of alternative rock groups to attend our concert.

The counter festival will be held on the same days of Coca Cola’s festival on 6-7 September 2003. If you want to attend we could only give your travel and boarding costs.
