The Interview That Wasn’t
By ALEXANDER COCKBURN
Hussain Rahhal, Hezbollah’s press liaison, has issued a written statement:
"Our secretary general Nasrallah has not given any interviews to any Turkish or other non-Lebanese journalist during the month of August. In the face of this imaginary interview that is untruthful, and hence does damage to journalism, credibility and objectivity, Hezbollah reserves its right to take legal action against those who have published it."

Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them

Tom Kean, the Republican running against Bob Menendez for the U.S. Senate seat recently vacated by John Corzine, is trying very hard to avoid talking about the issues. For instance, he’d rather avoid letting New Jersey know that he would have voted to confirm Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. He’d rather avoid discussing whether he would have voted for the Bush tax cuts that (…) -
Snap Judgments. About That Nasrallah Interview
30 August 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
By ALEXANDER COCKBURN
On August 17 we published a very interesting interview with Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah. A CounterPunch reader had found it on the Marxmail list, moderated by Louis Proyect, and passed it along to us. The interview was translated from Turkish, in which language it had appeared in the Turkish socialist daily, Evrensel, on August 12 and 13. We didn’t publish the full interview, which had some sections on the war that had been somewhat overtaken by (…) -
HILLARY CLINTON: IS SHE THE NEXT PRO-WAR DEMOCRAT TO FALL?

DUMMERSTON, Vt. - Joe Lieberman’s sorry hide has been nailed to the wall, and there is rejoicing in the land (except from the lobbyists, pundits and political hacks who make up the permanent occupation force of Washington).
And while I am pleased to see a discredited, humiliated Lieberman forced to cast his lot in with his friends in the Republican Party, I won’t be completely convinced that the revolution is here until Hillary Clinton’s hide is nailed to the wall (…) -
Bye Bye Bipartisanship

I have long endorsed the political strategy of supporting both GLBT friendly Democrats and Republicans. For pragmatic reasons, it made sense not to put all of our eggs in one basket. However, that was before the GOP leadership was hijacked by right wing basket cases. Sadly, I think it is time for the GLBT movement to reassess the political landscape and consider saying goodbye to bipartisanship.
The defenders of the status quo will claim that loyalty is an important (…) -

Will the American-Israeli aggression against Lebanon stop after the unanimous adoption by the Security Council of Resolution 1701 yesterday?

Statement by the General Secretary of the Lebanese Communist Party, Dr. Khaled Haddadeh on the occasion of the Emergency Meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers in Beirut. After 25 days of continuous American-Israeli aggression against our country, barbaric aggression that has killed our women and children and committed wholesale massacres from Marwaheen to Qana; from Bint Jbeil to al-Jamaliyah and al-Qaa massacres that are still going on, After the Arab governments have sat silent out of (…)

’Single issue’ candidate knows what’s important
6 August 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
BY JESSE JACKSON
To this day, Joe Lieberman still doesn’t get it. The 18-year incumbent Democratic senator from Connecticut is in the battle for his political life in the Democratic primary. He dismisses his challenger — Ned Lamont, a Connecticut businessman whose campaign is grounded on opposition to the war in Iraq, as a single-issue candidate.
But Iraq is not a single issue, it is a central issue — both for the country and for the Democratic Party. It is a catastrophic foreign policy (…) -

JEWS SPEAK OUT AGAINST ISRAELI AGGRESSION END THE KILLING IN GAZA, LEBANON AND ISRAEL!
The Jewish Socialists’ Group unreservedly condemns Israeli military aggression in Gaza and Lebanon, the appalling loss of civilian life on all sides in this conflict, and continued imprisonment without trial of thousands of Palestinians whose “crime” is to oppose Israel’s occupation.
When Israel commits acts of (…)
