There really is no way of getting around it. Sen. Hillary Clinton may well be future presidential material. From Manhattan to Hollywood, Hillary Clinton is pocketing enormous amounts of cash for her reelection campaign. Yet, Hillary is facing what seems to be fierce opposition from within her own party, as well as from third parties here in New York. The main reason candidates have signed up to challenge Hillary is her position, er, non-position on the disgraceful "war on (…)

Will The Real Democrats Please Stand Up?

Will The Real Democrats Please Stand Up? Robert Scheer July 04, 2006
Time for yet another Bush Iraq photo-op. Heck, the last one-when the president popped into the liberated Green Zone to once again proclaim a turning point in his obviously endless war-worked so well that he went up five points in some opinion polls.
No matter that the government in Baghdad is as dysfunctional and powerless as ever, that the rate of U.S. and Iraqi deaths has climbed since Bush’s visit, that the war is on (…) -

2 commentsA Call To Investigate The 2004 Election By Steven F. Freeman and Joel Bleifuss June 26, 2006
WE’VE ALL heard the story. Nov. 2, 2004, was shaping up as a day of celebration for Democrats. The exit polls were predicting a victory for Senator John Kerry. Many Americans, including most political observers, sat down to watch the evening television coverage convinced that Kerry would be the next president.
But the counts that were being reported on TV bore little resemblance to the exit poll (…) -
From Kansas To South Carolina, Republican Moderates Turning Their Backs On The Neocons & Defecting

2 commentsFrom Kansas To South Carolina, Republican Moderates Are Turning Their Backs On The Neocons And Defecting To The Enemy Paul Harris in Topeka, Kansas Sunday June 25, 2006
The squat, bunker-like building in a south Topeka suburb does not look like a place to turn American politics on its head. Nor does Mark Parkinson, a tall, affable man, look too much like a revolutionary. But here, deep in the American heartland, are the warning signs of a political earthquake. The two-storey office block (…) -
Party Favor

Party Favor Tom Knapp Thursday, June 22, 2006 A number of Libertarians have expressed interest in moving a resolution for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney at the Libertarian Party’s upcoming national convention in Portland, Oregon. Of course, in order for a resolution to be moved, it first must be written. Here’s my initial proposal (which has not, as of this writing, been adopted for promotion by any group):
Whereas, George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney have (…) -
GOP Kills Bill to Police Halliburton

2 commentsRepublicans in Congress have made it clear they’re willing to fight for military contractors’ right to lie, cheat and defraud taxpayers.
By Bob Geiger 06/20/06 "AlterNet"— - I suppose it’s old news at this point that the Bush administration lied us into the Iraq war and that the cost of this mess will be fully realized by the next generation when Bush leaves office with the biggest budget deficit in U.S. history.
And, while Democrats have been complaining for years about the GOP-led (…) -
Surf’s Up!..Bush’s Base is back and all is good!
24 June 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsHave you noticed the change in the country since Karl Rove got "off the Plame hook" and came back into the fold to steer the ship of state? The mood in the White House since recent changes, a "surprise" visit to Iraq, and the capture of Zarquawi, is positively ecstatic.
Bush’s energy has been renewed, his "Stones" strut, "Heh heh" smirk is back, and best of all, thanks to some manipulations by the Rovester, the ever gullible Republican base is edging back to the Bush camp, and all appears (…) -
"Cut And Run": A Winning Slogan And Strategy If The Democrats Are Serious About Wanting To Win

2 comments"Cut And Run": A Winning Slogan And Strategy If The Democrats Are Serious About Wanting To Win By David Lindorff Thursday, June 22, 2006
The Democrats in Congress are having trouble coming up with a position on the War in Iraq because they are so afraid of Republican charges that they are the "cut and run" party.
It’s a pathetic spectacle, and they should give it up. The way I see it "cut and run" is the slogan the Democrats should adopt as their own for the 2006 election year. (…) -
Francisco de Goya foresees 21st-century Democrats
22 June 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
Somehow Goya, who died almost 200 years ago, was able to see what the Democratic Party would eventually become. No longer would the Party work for the people. The Party would ride on the backs of the people and expect them to take the Party wherever it wished to go. One thing Goya did not foresee-eventually the people will tire of this mistreatment and look for a new party. That day is coming sooner than the DLC realizes.

Seeking a Better Debate

Tuesday 20 June 2006
The Republican majority in Congress labored mightily last week to derail and distract any discussion of an exit strategy from Iraq. In the House of Representatives, a debate aimed at whether or not to establish a timetable for withdrawal collapsed under a rhetorical onslaught from the Right. In order to adequately describe the experience of watching the so-called House "debate" on June (…)
