WASHINGTON (AP) - A new political action committee to put veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in Congress is getting under way.
There is not one policymaker debating this war who has actually fought this war,’’ Jon Soltz, the executive director of the PAC and an Iraq war veteran, said in an interview Wednesday.
Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark, a former Democratic presidential candidate, is heading the advisory board of the group, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans (…)

The Chinks in the ’Hillary’s an ’08 Lock’ CW Armor
26 January 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
by Arianna Huffington
You hear it again and again around the Beltway. Hillary sitting atop the Democratic ticket in ’08 is all but a done deal. She’s got too much name recognition, too much money, too much star power to be denied. In short, the Washington Conventional Wisdom is that Hillary is unbeatable for the nomination because she is unbeatable for the nomination.
QED.
But how reliable is this piece of DC CW? According to a quick survey of the facts on the ground: not very.

SEN. CLINTON ENABLES PRESIDENT’S WAR

DETROIT — The radical blabbermouths reverberating in the "shout politics" forums found great opportunities in Osama bin Laden’s latest communication. They bowed to our low expectations of their work as they spread fear and lies and tried to protect President George W. Bush from any criticism, while the al-Qaeda leader hurled more threats. Only traitors challenge our noble leader in these perilous times. We are in a war! Wake up, America!

We Deserve More Than the Lesser of Who Cares

As each year goes by, I think of the body politics and throw up my hands since I no longer see any candidate worth fighting for. As we go on, I am reminded of a short speech given by the fictional Chief of Staff on the West Wing, Leo McGary where he said: “Because I’m tired of it year after year after year after year having to chose between the lesser of who cares? Of trying to get myself excited about a candidate who can speak in complete sentences. Of setting the bar (…) -

1 commentby Bryan Evans Senator Clinton & U.S. Congressional Leadership: Three cheers from the American "street" and the "outlands" of the Americas for your timely metaphor regarding Congress being run like a "PLANTATION"— by which you surely mean it has become elitist, corrupted, poisoned by paranoia, blinded by industry? All the "good old boys" with their bankrolls and silky suits spitting out barred windows on common taxpayers and the vast "underpriveleged" who barely rate a mention? (…)

"I want to be absolutely clear, what the president ordered in this case was a crime"
23 January 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
7 commentsLegal experts, privacy advocates and Democratic lawmakers on Friday called for congressional and independent investigations into whether the Bush administration broke the law by authorizing a secret program to eavesdrop on U.S. citizens without a court order.
Seven Democrats held an unofficial hearing in the basement of a House office building to examine revelations that Bush ordered the National Security Agency to conduct warrantless wiretaps.
"I want to be absolutely clear, what the (…) -
Above the Law

The Senate Judiciary committee will be voting on the confirmation of Samuel Alito next week. I had not been watching the hearings or following the "Alito story" too closely, (he will most likely be confirmed by the committee), today however, the story became interesting. The democrats lashed out at Bushco and Samuel Alito. Senator Leahy came out to say he will vote no to Alito who he feels will not provide the necessary check "at a time when the president is seizing unprecedented power" (…)

Bush "How do you know his life would have been good?"

A while ago, I had discussions with a number of people through emails where they have suggested that I back down in my criticisms of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton since she voted for the war and perhaps will be the Democratic candidate come 2008. But, if I want to remain truthful with my readers and have credibility, I simply have to stay the course. As an American that has been against this war from the start, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s vote for this war was (…) -

AUSTIN, Texas (Creators Syndicate) — I’d like to make it clear to the people who run the Democratic Party that I will not support Hillary Clinton for president.
Enough. Enough triangulation, calculation and equivocation. Enough clever straddling, enough not offending anyone This is not a Dick Morris election. Sen. Clinton is apparently incapable of taking a clear stand on the war in Iraq, and that alone is enough to disqualify her. Her failure to speak out on Terri (…) -
Corruption Crisis in US Govt more than Republicans?
19 January 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsThe reason our republic is in crisis is not that we have a ruthless, criminal administration in power; it is not that the press is controlled by self-serving corporations; it is not because rampant bribery has overtaken the Congressional agenda; and the massive, devious and sinister program by Repuglicans to subvert democracy is still not adequate explanation for the crisis. The reason our republic is in crisis is that we have no opposition party.
Without proof, I offer the following (…)
