Over two thousand people made their way to Camp Casey yesterday for a huge hoe down deep in the heart of Texas. Full buses of supporters from Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin unload and loaded throughout the day. The day included a massive volunteer mobilization to serve up a full "Texas-style BBQ," and to support all of the camp visitors in the 100+ heat. After Cindy Sheehan welcomed many of the buses, the main tent stage featured a day of music by artists from across Texas. (…)

The Peaceful Occupation of Crawford (Day 21)
29 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
6 commentsby Cindy Sheehan, Crawford, Texas
A photographer friend of mine went down to Crawford to the Pro-War, Anti-Peace rally today. There were about 1500 people there he said. He also said that it was the most "third reich" spectacle that he had ever seen in America.
My friend said that the speakers were whipping up the crowd into a frenzy of hatred for me (like they already didn’t hate me?) and for the peace movement. My friend said that the entire theme of the rally was: "Cindy is killing (…) -
Exclusive: Downing Street reporter dissects pre-war Iraq intelligence

Details ’chill factor’ imposed around Iraq intelligence; Putting Downing Street docs in perspective
LONDON — "The [U.S. WMD] Commission found no evidence of political pressure to influence the Intelligence Community’s pre-war assessment of Iraq’s weapons programs."
That is only one of a number of strange conclusions by those charged with investigating the way flaky intelligence was used to justify the 2003 Iraq War.
The most vociferous advocates of an attack on Iraq (…) -
Galloway to go on anti-war tour of US with Jane Fonda
29 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
10 commentsBy Andrew Buncombe
George Galloway, the anti-war MP for Bethnal Green and Bow who rocked the US Senate earlier this year, is to be accompanied on a speaking tour of America by the actress and activist Jane Fonda.
Few things are more likely to antagonise US conservatives than the combination of Mr Galloway and Ms Fonda - still hated by the right because of her outspoken opposition to the war in Vietnam - joining to condemn the American presence in Iraq. But Mr Galloway can expect a (…) -
Crawford Peace House takes donations meant for Cindy Sheehan and protesters and pays off mortgage
28 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsDoes anyone else think this is a little selfish? How can they feel good about taking the donations and paying off their mortgage even before the protest is over? It sort of seems like the mentality of a repubican, to always think of themselves first.
They could have instead used the protest money to rent more camping and parking space to enable the protest to grow. Instead they were sending folks away.
"According to Ann Wright, camp coordinator, they are thrilled with the number of (…) -
Democrats, take a stand

12 commentsby Helen Thomas
WASHINGTON - It’s time for the Democratic Party to take a courageous stand and call for the withdrawal of troops from the senseless war in Iraq.
Its human cost and the billion-dollar a week tab in Iraq should give all Americans pause.
Would the Republicans have hesitated to challenge the Democrats if the shoe was on the other foot? Did the opposition party give former President Bill Clinton any slack while he was in office?
What is the logic of Sens. Hillary Clinton, (…) -
The Peaceful Occupation of Crawford: Exhaustion

I finally figured out George Bush’s NEW reason for staying in Iraq. This reason has also been co-opted by the Move America Forward (forward to what: Fascism?) and the poor mothers who would be honored if their sons were killed in George Bush’s war for greed and power.
Since the Freedom and Democracy thing is not going so well and the Iraqi parliament is having such a hard time writing their constitution, since violence is mounting against Iraqis and Americans, and since (…) -

August 26, 2005-Although the revelation received predictably little attention in America’s corporate media on May 1, the Times of London reported on a top secret internal British government memo that proves that George W. Bush was lying through his teeth when he took this nation to war in Iraq.
The leaked memo is now known as the "Downing Street Memo," referring to the prime minister’s residence. Its authenticity has not been (…) -

1 commentCIA assassinated Italian Intelligence operative - Fox TV.
By Liberal Republican
A Talking head with glasses and light colored hair on Fox TV concluded, last night, that the supposed accidental killing of an Italian intelligence official was intentional.
He went on to explain that it was retribution dealt out to the Italians for arranging a deal with the terrorists to release an aid worker held hostage. In fact the agent was shot while he was covering the released woman hostage with his (…) -

24 commentsTests on returning troops suggest serious health consequences of depleted uranium use in Iraq
By Dave Lindorff
Gerard Matthew thought he was lucky. He returned from his Iraq tour a year and a half ago alive and in one piece. But after the New York State National Guardsman got home, he learned that a bunkmate, Sgt. Ray Ramos, and a group of N.Y. Guard members from another unit had accepted an offer by the New York Daily News and reporter Juan Gonzalez to be tested for depleted uranium (…)
