Four Arab Israelis shot dead by a soldier opposed to the closure of the Gaza Strip settlements are not victims of "terror" because their killer was Jewish, Israel’s defence ministry has ruled, and so their families are not entitled to the usual compensation for life.
The ministry concluded that the law only recognises terrorism as committed by "organisations hostile to Israel" even though the prime minister, Ariel Sharon, described the killings by Private (…)

Several atmospheric conditions came together which was described by the National Weather Service as the “perfect storm.” This monster of a storm sunk the Andrea Gail along with her captain, Captain Billy Tyne ... Hollywood even made a movie starring George Clooney.
The reason why I ask if Katrina is our ’perfect storm’ is because the oil industry took one on the nose when many refineries were hit by this monster storm.

Iraq’s fig leaf constitution

Who lost Iraq? Someday, as a fragmented Iraq spirals further into religious madness, terrorism and civil war, there will be a bipartisan inquiry into this blundering intrusion into another people’s history.
The crucial question will be why a "preemptive" American invasion - which has led to the deaths of nearly 2,000 Americans, roughly 10 times as many Iraqis, the expenditure of about $200 billion and incalculable damage to the United States’ global reputation - has had (…) -

38 commentsNov. 19, 1863 Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of it as a final resting place for those who died here that the nation might live. This we (…) -

WASHINGTON — Organizers are planning what they say will be the largest anti-war demonstration in the nation’s capital since the Iraq war began in March 2003.
The ANSWER Coalition and United for Peace and Justice detailed their plans Thursday for the Sept. 24 protest. They plan to bus in people from across the country for a march past the White House. Other major protests are planned that day in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

THE SHIP OF STATE IS SUNK
by Mark Kato
If anyone has had any doubts about George W. Bush’s utter lack of leadership, the disaster now visiting New Orleans and Biloxi should provide ample proof that this man who many believe illegally inhabits the White House is unfit to be President of the United States of America. Indeed, George W. Bush is unfit to be dogcatcher, and it would be an insult to the canine world if he held such a modest office. In equal measure, but infinitely more (…) -

After a 26-day vigil that ignited the anti-war movement, Cindy Sheehan took her protest on the road Wednesday, while a handful of veterans pledged to continue camping off the road leading to President Bush’s ranch until the war in Iraq ends.
Rather than heading home to California, the mother of a 24-year-old soldier who died in Iraq boarded one of three buses heading out on tour to spread her message.

Sheehan, war protesters leave camp
1 September 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
Dozens of war opponents on Wednesday left their makeshift campsite near President Bush’s ranch after a 26-day roadside vigil that drew thousands and ignited the anti-war movement.
Cindy Sheehan, a fallen soldier’s mother who arrived in Bush’s adopted hometown Aug. 6 and refused to leave until he talked to her, boarded one of several buses heading on a tour to continue spreading her message.
"This is where I’m going to spend every August from now on," Sheehan said as she smiled and waved (…) -

It Was the Oil, Stupid
by Cindy Sheehan, Crawford, TX
"If Zarqawi and bin Laden gain control of Iraq, they would create a new training ground for future terrorist attacks," Bush said. "They’d seize oil fields to fund their ambitions. They could recruit more terrorists by claiming a historic victory over the United States and our coalition."(George Bush, August 30, 2005 in San Diego.)
So it is official, Casey had his blood shed in Iraq for OIL. He died so we could pay over 3.00/gallon (…) -

Goodbye to Crawford But Not to Camp Casey
While George golfed yesterday, the worst hurricane ever struck New Orleans; oil went up to over 68.00/barrel; and an American soldier was killed in the charade and cataclysmic occupation of Iraq. The soldier’s family doesn’t even know what’s going to hit them yet. The death is "Pending Notification." I continually ask myself: "How do George Bush and other death-mongers live with themselves?" While George vacations (…)
