Days after the 9-11 attacks, George W. Bush informed Americans, "This crusade, this war on terrorism, is going to take awhile." As a Yale history major, he ought to have known what the medieval Crusades were all about: Christians against Muslims, mostly for control of Palestine, fought with all the viciousness and duplicity reflected in the recent film "The Kingdom of (…)

I Used To Be a Neocon
28 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
8 commentsTwo years ago I was a neocon. I supported Bush’s war on Iraq and I called everyone who didn’t a liberal Kool-aid drinker. I voted for Bush in 2000 and I listened to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and just about any right-winger on the radio that I could get a four-word talking point from to use against liberals. I would say things such as "liberals won’’ defend America," "shut up and sing," "freedom is on the march," and "you’re a great American." I supported the war at first because I bought (…)

The mystery of Iraqi resistance
28 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentI suppose the second biggest mystery about the occupation of Iraq - after the fact that the United States is spending billions of dollars to build a series of giant permanent military bases in Iraq without any mainstream media coverage (the complete lack of mainstream media coverage is no surprise) - is the fact that apparently no one - not the media, not the Pentagon, not the learned commentators - seems to have the slightest idea of the nature of the Iraqi resistance. The insurgents are (…)

Now we know where they stand. The historic debate and vote on the Lynn Woolsey amendment.
On the evening of May 25, the US House of Representatives considered an amendment offered by Representative Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) calling for an exit strategy from Iraq. Amendment No. 26 simply stated:
"It is the sense of Congress that the president should -

11 days left before war with Iran
27 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
Are we going to stand idly by as more sovereign countries are attacked? This farce has nothing to do with getting rid of nuclear weapons in the Middle East or else the US would shut down the billions of dollars of aid that Israel receives. Money that is funneled into its massive chemical, biological and nuclear arsenal, which is turning Israel into a dominant superpower. Their military & political might remains unchecked. They are in firm control of the world’s remaining superpower, the (…)

The Insufferable Silence

Anthony Wade - www.OpEdNews.com May 24, 2005
How much is enough America? How much is enough before we stand up collectively and say, “No more”. America has become sedated, tranquilized by a corporate media that keeps the truth from coming to light on an everyday basis. Anesthetized to the point that when the vilest acts perpetrated in the war on terror are being carried out by us, we just flip the channel to see if we can see who is left on American Idol. What has happened to our (…) -
Fake Left Anti-War Groups Out Themselves
27 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
15 commentsYou know, I hate to be accusatory, but there comes a time when you’ve got to call people out on their bogus logic. This incredible smoking gun memo just came out, now we KNOW that Bush Lied to start the war and that all the WMD threats were bogus, the neocons were ’fixing the facts’ to sell it to the gullible American public. Why aren’t all honest members of Congress raising hell? Troops are still dying everyday- dying so Bush the Liar can save face- we need to stop this NOW. Immediate (…)

The memo: Boston constitutional lawyer seeks Resolution of Inquiry on Iraq
27 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsMEMORANDUM To: Rep. John Conyers, Jr. From: John C. Bonifaz Date: May 22, 2005 RE: The President’s Impeachable Offenses
The recent release of the Downing Street Memo provides new and compelling evidence that the President of the United States has been actively engaged in a conspiracy to deceive and mislead the United States Congress and the American people about the basis for going to war against Iraq. If true, such conduct constitutes a High Crime under Article II, Section 4 of the United (…) -
Amnesty Takes Aim at ’Gulag’ in Guantanamo
27 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsLONDON - Amnesty International castigated the U.S. prison camp in Guantanamo Bay as a failure Wednesday, calling it "the gulag of our time" in the human rights group’s harshest rebuke yet of American detention policies. ADVERTISEMENT
Amnesty urged Washington to shut down the prison at the U.S. Navy’s base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where some 540 men are held on suspicion of links to Afghanistan’s ousted Taliban regime or the al-Qaida terror network. Some have been jailed for more than three (…) -

26 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
Wisconsin Democrat David Obey proposed an amendment to reduce tax cuts for those making $1,000,000 or more per year and give the savings to Veterans Health Care. A Republican shot it down on a technicality.
The text from the House Clerk:
1:24 P.M. - Amendment offered by Mr. Obey.
An amendment to reduce tax cuts for taxpayers with an adjusted gross income in excess of $1 million for taxable year 2006 by 8.125 percent and to use the resulting savings to increase funding for Veterans’ (…)
