College Faculty, Students Oppose War Bill Gallagher May 24, 2005 "As Christians we are called to be peacemakers, and to initiate war only as a last resort. We believe your administration has launched an unjust and unjustified war in Iraq." — An open letter to President George W. Bush from concerned faculty, staff and emeriti of Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Mich.

Democrats may extend Iraq war memo probe to London
24 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
U.S. congressmen are investigating the British government’s role in helping to prepare for the war in Iraq.
Senior Democrats in Congress are considering sending a delegation to London to investigate Britain’s role in the preparations for the war, which was launched in March 2003. They have seized on a leaked Downing Street memo, first published three weeks ago by The Sunday Times, as evidence American lawmakers were misled about Bush’s intentions in Iraq.

3 commentsLast Friday I was on the panel of Bill Maher’s season finale of his HBO show “Real Time.” Bill’s guest by satellite was Senator Norm Coleman from my home state of Minnesota. Because Coleman serves on the homeland security committee, Maher asked him to comment on former homeland security director Tom Ridge’s recent revelation that the Bush administration would often issue terror alerts that he didn’t think were warranted. Could it be that they were using terror alerts politically?

2 commentsAlas, Hogan’s Heroes. And poor LeBeau. He never stood a chance. The second that Sgt. Schultz discovered the receiver in the coffee pot and then sputtered a report to Colonel Klink, who then discovered the comically obvious bugs in his office, LeBeau’s fate was sealed. But there was so much to go through before the sweet kiss of death finally sucked the last breath from the ill-fated Frenchman. Sure, when Klink called Col. Hogan to his office, Hogan expected to do the usual song and dance - (…)

65 commentsIS GEORGE BUSH A LIAR?
By Peter Fredson
May 23, 2005
The American public has now had 4 years of what is loosely called “Bush Leadership.” According to most polls, about half of the nation thinks G.W.Bush is some kind of heroic or even saintly figure, and the other half thinks he is a shallow smirking strutting popinjay who is determined to destroy the democracy he found intact when he was given the Presidency by the Supreme Court.
Many people have charged that he has a firm (…) -

27 commentsAre we going to stand idly by as more sovereign countries are attacked? This farce has nothing to do with getting rid of nuclear weapons in the Middle East or else the US would shut down the billions of dollars of aid that Israel receives. Money that is funneled into its massive chemical, biological and nuclear arsenal, which is turning Israel into a dominant superpower. Their military & political might remains unchecked. They are in firm control of the world’s remaining superpower, the (…)

Totalitarian USA: Report your family members or go to prison
22 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
28 commentsProposed legislation would compel people to spy on their family members and neighbors, forcing all Americans to become foot soldiers in the war on drugs.
Neighbors spying on neighbors? Mothers forced to turn in their sons or daughters? These are images straight out of George Orwell’s 1984, or a remote totalitarian state. We don’t associate them with the land of the free and the home of the brave, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t happen here. A senior congressman, James Sensenbrenner (…) -
