When Human Values are Debased

Throughout history man has committed atrocity upon atrocity on his fellow man, and little boys, but only when it affects next Saturday’s football game does it create such pandemonium in the student body.

The coach has been sacked along with several high administrators and possibly more will follow down the gangplank for the sacrificial walk. Anything to quiet the righteous and the press. Well, not really, the press thrives on bad news. And the righteous, well, it gives them something else to pray about.

Disturbingly, the victims are left to struggle with their pain. The perpetrator might go to the dungeon quickly but retribution will surely take decades, if ever to be resolved. The court system is the big winner here.

In due time an updated Code of Ethics will hang in the halls of the venerable institution and the new Athletic Director will ban small boy children from showering with towering giants of the artificial turf and the smell of wieners roasting over charcoal fires will permeate the parking lot of the stadium before the game whistle blows.

The pandemonium will give way to civility and all will be well, except in far away places…such as Cuba, Vietnam, Panama, Grenada, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Yemen and, maybe Syria?

And there we will excuse slight deviations of character, honor and basic humanitarian values. It is justifiable to kill small children if they are unlucky enough to live in a place that needs to be civilized in our view of how a democracy should work and how world order should be.

At least that’s what our former Secretary of State said:
Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price—we think the price worth it—60 Minutes (5/12/96)

We need to do something about all those foreigners and by God that’s what our Founding Fathers meant when they said to keep Christ in Christmas, damn right, just kill’em all.

By the way, if anyone wants to get rid of a couple of tickets on the 50-yard line, down low….call me at 814…….ext 212
